RAFESA presents its new wooden lids with a compostable interior

RAFESA presenta sus nuevos tapones de madera con interior compostable

These wooden lids are perfect for use with cosmetic and perfume product containers. An organic, warm and elegant option that brings a unique premium finish to any container. Besides coming with a compostable interior, the wooden lids from RAFESA are FSC-certified to prove that the wood used for making them has been obtained from controlled forests and not from any endangered forests.

Creating a product that is made from or contains organic components such as wood brings us a little closer to a truly circular consumption model that helps to preserve our ecosystems. RAFESA has firmly aligned itself and its business operations with this commitment. However, we have gone the extra mile by designing and bringing to market not only a line of wooden lids but the compostable interior that accompanies them. In other words, this interior can biologically degrade in the same way as the wood that covers it.

We often pay most attention to and focus our efforts on the largest or most important parts of a product, such as the container or the lid. But what do we gain by committing to a sustainable material if other invisible but equally present parts are not sustainable? The lid interior is, in fact, one of these parts or components that can go unnoticed but that are necessary for the product to function and for its overall sustainability.

RAFESA wishes to commit to a high-quality design that is genuinely functional and not only pretty to look at: we want the end of its useful life to not compromise the environment. Our response to this need is hidden inside the lid. Generally speaking, the inside of a lid – whether the lid is made from wood or not – is plastic due to the elastic properties provided by this material in guaranteeing a proper seal.

Now that we offer a wooden lid, we asked ourselves how we could go the extra mile and achieve a suitable interior that can also be disposed of or separated into the same container as the wooden lid itself. By asking ourselves that question, we came up with a solution. We designed and produced a compostable interior that enables us to guarantee the properties of the content inside the container without sacrificing the sustainability already achieved by using a material like wood for the lid.
